Day 3: White Mountains Check out the first two days of our road trip here.
With only one day to spare for New Hampshire, we decided to visit the state's well-known White Mountains. In fact, it was these beauties that gave New Hampshire its nickname 'Switzerland of America.'
We found, the most unique and fun way to visit the National Park, was with The Mount Washington Cog Railway (the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway, operating since 1869). The scenic ride up Mount Washington was filled with stunning mountain views, accompanied by a historic narrative. At one point during the ride, the Cog travels uphill at almost 40°. It's difficult to image, but the only way to stand is diagonally.
The final destination of the ride is at the summit of Mount Washington, with 360° views of mountains, nature, and a breathtaking skyline. On a clear day you can see up to five states, Canada, and the Atlantic Ocean!
After a morning of exploration, we checked in to Omni Mount Washington Resort. This massive hotel is perfectly situated in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful scenery and nature. Its old-time charm creates an ambience unlike anywhere else. We spent the rest of the day relaxing by the fire, then had an early dinner at the hotel's restaurant, and finished the night by exploring their large private property. The fresh air, numerous trails, and nature was the perfect way to end our day 🙌🏻
